Prospective students
2027 entry: I am taking new PhD students.
PhD applicants
I supervise PhD students in machine learning and decision making, including:
- Multi-agent reinforcement learning and game theory
- Large language model agents and embodied AI
- Generative models and Bayesian optimisation
- Information retrieval and recommender systems
Apply through the UCL Computer Science PhD programme, select "Computer Science" as the department and name Prof. Jun Wang as the proposed supervisor. Funding information is on the same page.
What I look for
Successful applicants usually have:
- A first-class degree (or top 5% of their cohort) in computer science, mathematics, physics or a related field
- Strong mathematical foundations: probability, linear algebra, optimisation
- Strong programming skills, with code you can point to (e.g. GitHub)
- Research experience, ideally a first-author paper or a substantial research project
Before you email
Pick one of my 2026 papers (see the home page or Google Scholar) and write one paragraph on how you would extend it: what is missing, what you would try, and why. Write it yourself, without using AI tools such as ChatGPT. Include this paragraph in your email to jun.wang (at) cs.ucl.ac.uk together with your CV. Emails without it will not be answered.
Because of the number of emails I receive, I may not be able to reply to every one, even if it follows these instructions.
