Part-Time Study

In 2007/8 both full-time and part-time students must complete the taught part of the course in one year. Part-time students may undertake the research project in a different year. The lectures will take approximately 40 days in the first two terms and there will be additional days needed for examinations (see Timetable).
The reasons for requiring the taught part of the course to be taken in one year are:

to encourage a rapport amongst students and between students and staff,
to encourage students to focus on the course material,
to provide a consistent course specifically for the current year,
to enable flexibility in the course design for future years.

Part-time students can apply for EPSRC funding allocated to this MSc (see our Fees and Funding page). If you are in employment, it may be that this can be used to partially release you from your current post. The level of Stipend for a part-time MSc student will be approximately £7000 per year. Depending on the employment situation and research project, this may be payable only for the year in which you attend taught courses.

If the requirement to complete the taught part of the course in one year prevents you from applying for the MSc, please contact us. If there is sufficient demand, we will reconsider.
