Applications are invited for an Engineering Doctorate
(EngD) in the Department of Computer Science at the University
College London (UCL) in conjunction with Anthropics Technology Ltd. This is a 4-year studentship,
leading to the award of an Engineering Doctorate, which offers the opportunity
to conduct research within an industrial context. This EPSRC

PROJECT
We are developing technologies to simplify
interactive user-editing of photographs. Semantic region selection, hole-filling that
respects perspective and scene structure, and shadow-removal are prime examples
of editing operations that are theoretically possible but not yet practical.
The emerging research area of Computational
Photography combines Computer Graphics, Vision, and Machine Learning to make
algorithms that work outside the lab. The
project aim is to both advance the state of the art
with scientific publications, and to make good use of user-interactions.
This research work will involve algorithm
development, performance evaluation, and some system integration.
Applicants are required to have
·
A bachelor degree (1st or 2.1 honors)
or an MS in Computer Science or related field;
·
Good knowledge of computer vision / graphics and
mathematics;
·
Strong programming skills, particularly C++, C, and Matlab;
·
Good communication and presentation skills;
·
GPU programming and talent in visual arts a plus.
Informal enquiries on the project can be made to Dr
Gabriel Brostow (http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/staff/G.Brostow/).
