B402: Electronic Commerce (Internet and New Media)

The course focuses on the technology aspects of the Internet, Web, creating new media, issues such as security and electronic payments and the business uses. The course contains a major practical element. The target audience is students from across UCL who have a good level of computer literacy and should be particularly atrractive to undergratduate students from the Arts and Humanities.

· Publishing on the Web: Design of Web Sites and Tools; Databases; Implementing Forms; Search Engines etc.

· Authoring Tools and Java: Authoring Tools. Java Programming.

· Audio Files: Introduction to Audio. Setting up Audio facilities.

· Video Files: Introduction to Video & Teleconferencing. Setting up Video facilities.

· Electronic Payments and Security: Electronic Payments. Security and Legal Aspects.

· Access & Communication: Setting up a Web Server. Dial-up and ISDN communications.

· Electronic Retailing: Multi-media interfaces. Kiosks and Virtual Reality.

· Electronic Commerce Issues: Types of Businesses.
