Careers in Computer Science

Graduates from UCL are keenly sought by the worlds leading organisations, and many progress in their careers to secure senior and influential positions. UCL Computer Science (UCL-CS) graduates are particularly valued as a result of the Departments strong international reputation, strong links with industry, and ideal location close to the City of London. Our graduates secure careers in a wide variety or organisations; for example with global IT consultancies, as IT analysts with City banks, or as IT specialists within manufacturing industries.

Students choose to study Computer Science at UCL not only because it is a top-rated department but also because it has a friendly atmosphere; at UCL-CS students are viewed as an important and integral part of the Department. This extends far beyond the few years of study at UCL-CS, and the Department takes pride in helping its graduates throughout their careers. For example:

  • We help place students with key companies for summer internships and projects
  • We provide a conduit for companies to advertise careers opportunities to students
  • We encourage and help key companies in providing careers-related presentations to students
  • We provide advice on careers selection
  • We provide references for our graduates
  • We continue to provide support and advice for recent graduates and older alumni
  • UCL-CS alumni can keep in touch with their classmates and get help with their professional development. See our Alumni pages for more information.
  • We are especially keen to help UCL-CS alumni who have risen to a level where they are seeking graduates for their own organisations.

The UCL-CS Careers Service is organised and run by the Computer Science Careers Tutor Kevin Bryson. He provides advice to students and acts as a key facilitator for organisations who wish to improve their visibility and profile within UCL-CS and who are looking to attract the best CS graduates.
