A bad ID-ea

Your editorial (Realism reaches ID card plan, 13 July) was not only naive but insulting. We all welcome a pause in the ID proceedings, but only people so wrapped up in technology would want to extend ID cards to all aspects of existence.
I too am favour technology, but not when it it intrudes irrevocably into our private lives, and makes us beholden to the state.
To consider extending this in the term of protection is just another government ploy to get the idea accepted.
