Announcement of One Day Workshop on Platforms for Multimedia Applications on Multiservice Networks

The Agenda for the day

Under the umbrella of the BT University Research Initiative on Management of Multiservice Networks (associated with the SuperJANET initiative), we are holding a one day workshop in the rapdily evolving arera of System Architectures and Platforms for Multimedia Applications on Multiservice Networks.

There are six universities involved, University College London, Imperial College, Cambridge, Lancaster, Loughborough and Oxford Brookes. They will give presentations on their work and there will be invited papers from other organisations. The topics to be coverd include:

Nework Signalling Support for Multimedia Applications
  • Distributed Signalling
  • Remote Switch/Router Management
  • (RSVP/Q.2931/Flow Label and Tag Route Interfaces)
    QoS Management
  • QoS specification notations and QoS APIs
  • QoS monitoring - local vs remote; intrusive vs passive etc.
  • Remote Interfaces to QoS Monitoring Statistics
  • QoS support and adaption within protocols, operating systems and applications
  • Dynamic adaption to changes in QoS
    CORBA Platform Design Issues
  • Binding and protocol selection
  • Supporting various programming paradigms - media streams, events, multicast etc,
  • Component level hierarchical compostion
  • Life cycle support.
  • Language Integration (e.g. multi-language - C++/Java etc)
    Security
  • Network, system and application security implementation issue
  • Security policy specification
  • Security management and key distribution
  • There will be a charge of #75 ??? to cover the cost of refreshements, lunches, copies of presentation etc.

    The EPSRC will provide some students with expenses to attend the workshop (on a FCFS basis).
