Loughborough Ian talked about BT Demos, and Cambridge Integration with LU - gaves timescales for workplan....... Mark presented ideas on LU work on automatic feature classification in the traces = there was some discussion of use of neural nets and other trendy AI techniques for the problem UCL James presented UCL plans for server stack management IC Nat talked about ndover of config work to BT and Corba Lite Cambridge Brian talked about the xbind/switchlet status, and the problems of version wars...also mentioned in an aside the problem with a DNS upgrade and unix machines with multiple IP addresses. OBU Frank outlined the OBU QoS work - CBQ and RED and feedback control and various schedulers.... BT asked if in future, partners could present work even if it had been seen by some folks at related (Umbrella/LEARNET) meetings! Lancaster Dan did an extensive presentation of the Lancaster work - he has the diskwall scheduler working and is now looking at CPU shares and performance moniutoring - adaption (UCL referred him to the UCL work - e.g. Bhatti's thesis), and finally , the demo plans using DVD and video conferencing. see http://www.comp.lancs.ac.uk/computing/users/dan/publications/index.html BT Ian Marshall talked about the scalable server work at BT based on a similar architecture to Avalon, but tuned for storage and network I/O rather than CPU. Chris talked about the work on WWW Cache analysis 3/ Papers, Patents, Projects Papers: ACTION: Ian asked everyone to send him a description of their part of the project for a apper he is putting togerther for the BT Technology Journal - electronic copy by end of september at latest - 20-3 papges outling key results. We noted that Morris' IMM call was completed today - some partners had several papers submitted. Jon drew everyone's attention to the IEEE IWQoS workshop to be at UCL May 31-June 4, 1999 (http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/research/iwqos99) Patents - here may be some BT/lancaster patents after UCL and LUs. Projects: Morris outlined some of the EPSRC MNA recent awards - several partners were succesful, but mainly in the mobile area. He also mentioned the HP/EPSRC Active Networks meeting (in september at HP labs) 4/ Integration Plan Ian talked about the piecewise plans for demo work and which components would be shown - he wants this in August 99 - so we can do a detailed write up in sep/oct 99 at end of the project - ACTION: we should all look at the work we are doing and recall which (see http:www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/staff/jon/mmn/meetings.html foor links to previous minutes which outline some of the plans - as does the contract/proposal for y4/y5 work). 5/ T&D next meet Proposed: Lancaster (ACTION dh@lancs to check its ok) 11am start.
