Draft Minutes for MMN BT URI project for Cambridge, thurs, Mar 11 draft of 12/3/99, Jon Crowcroft 0/ introductions & apologies Attendees Ian Marshall et al from BT (please add!) Ian Leslie, Brian Cowe, Richard Mortier Jon Crowcroft David Hutchison, Dan Waddington David Parrish, Iain Phillips Morris Sloman, Nat Pryce Apologies from Mark Sanford at Loughborough 1/ minutes/actions/agenda bashing Crowcroft talked about the JIF proposal for a national network infrastructure for comms research - see JIF http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/staff/jon/jif/ Ian Leslie proposed that a clean version of this be posted with acover letter that potential institutions that wish to sign up can show to their provost/vice-chancellors - this should stress that a) the history of epsrc/ukerna (tale of two stools) b) the leverage this apparently small bid gets by having big industrial donations associated with it (i.e. can't just be done as a straight epsrc proposal) ACTION Crowcroft: will provide this by end of next week! 2/ work progress reports from each partner ACTION ALL: Give me the online version of your slides! OBU in absentia Cambridge Brian Cowe gave a nice talk about admission for voice over switchlets UCL Jon Crowcroft talked about UCL's epxloitation plans, and james cowans departure to pastures new... Lancaster Dan Waddington outliend state of the art of the PVM, plus java gateway for UTS dynamic proxylet server! Loughborough Iain Phillips talked about state of the monitoring system IC Nat Pryce talked about the state of MIDAS 3/ Papers, Patents, Projects Brief talk about JIF and FV 4/ Integration Plan We drew up a timeline. BT would like to have a demo of all the pieces at Martlesham in the week of August 23-27 - the demo day would have talks in the am, demos i nthe pm - 10-12 talks, about 20mins per partner (incl BT overview) and then 5/6 demos in the pm, in 2/3 different labs (Ian's, the learnet one etc) Working back from then, we have a timeline as follows: July 23rd - final date for s/w cut; talks to be delivered to ian June 23rd - final date for system specification to BT for each partner('s') demo; alpa version of talks from each partner to all the others so we can cross reference May 30th - finish changing things; only fix things! March/April - get on with it! one issue with the date is whether UTS will (can) be there or no 5/ T&D next meet One of sep 6,9,10,13-17,21-24 final debrief/wrapup, on Sep 24 at UCL, unless we are at BT on Sep 23rd, then there. 6/ AOB Crowcroft proposed to have a book of the "MMN URI Works - papers, patents etc" _ all agreed - its up to Ian and Jon to coordinate and edit this - we will ask for contributions after the demo! but before the last project meeting (when you try to do this after the last meeting, it suddenly becomes a very low priority:-) 7/ Planning for the End of the Project - -----------------------------> p.s. UCL are hiring 1 RF - if you know a windows java comms literate grad or postgrad interested in moving to london, please point them at http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/teaching/careers/vacancies/hip.txt
