an overview document on our demonstration for the review day its attached....basically, it is a web based demo of retrieving large images by multicast, via proxies, to a set of browsers over different line rates....therefore it necessarily needs about 6 local machines to make any sense at all (although only 1 to show the browser output - the rest can all be done by remote config somewhere else at INRIA....) please comment on what systems we can use at INRIA to make this work --------------------------------- 1. we are interested in the possibility of replacing the PPP link with a lo bandwidth wireless if you have one....we can also incorporate a piece of real internet path in the demo if need be but we wanted to avoid that due to risks.... 2. there are alternatives but not many: note that the actual configuration is fairly constrained due to the way multicast works.... we can set everything up, but we need something ressembling this (and it needs 3. we could run some freephone over one or two of the linsk during parts of the demo to show how the multicast adapts heterogeneously! We are trying to decide on the setup of the UCL part of the demo and need to know what will be provided by INRIA. It looks like we will be needing five unix PCs. Three of these have to be relatively fast pentiums (at least 133) and the fourth we don't really care. All or some of these can be replaced by suns (at least sparc 20s). For the OS for the PCs we prefer FreeBSD but linux will probably do (we have not tested this yet). We need FreeBSD on at least one of the machines. If you cannot provide it we can bring our own IDE disk with FreeBSD on it. On the machine that will be running FreeBSD we will need to install a video capture card. We will bring this with us. We intend to feed this card with video from a VHS VCR so we need you to provide us with one. On the network side we will need to have two ethernets and a serial PPP link between the machines so we will need two minihubs and a parallel cable. Summarry of what is needed: - 5 PCs - VCR - VHS VCR - 2 Minihubs - 1 Parallel cable with null modem for PC to PC ppp link Could you also please give me a short description of the demo room and the number of people that you expect to view the demo.
