The department occasionally has bursary support for PhD students. These are highly competitive and support a maintenance grant (currently, in September 2004, 12,500 pounds) and cover the cost of fees (for a home student).
For this, the student is expected to undertake teaching activities within the department that amount to about 300 hours work per year. This is in addition to their study for their PhD.
