CONTENT
- Cybercriminal operations, UK and international law, history of hacking
- Social engineering, 419 scams, romance scams, cyberbullying
- Malware and botnets
- Email spam, affiliate programs, underground economy of spam
- What malware is used for: denial of service, information stealing, ransonmware, banking malware
- Monetisation of cybercrime: exploit kits, malware as a service, money laundering
- Targeted attacks, state-sponsored malware, cyber espionage
- Social networks and cybercrime
- The Dark Web, virtual currencies
- Cybercrime mitigation, what works (and what doesn't)
METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
Lecture presentations and student group presentations
ASSESSMENT
- Written examination (2.5 hours, 50%)
- Group work (50%)
RESOURCES
Each week the students will be asked to read a research paper on selected topics related to cybercrime. No additional reading is required for the course, however the following books are good additional resources:
