Network Programme - Section 8

Human Resources Planning

8.1 Structures and Actions

Below we set out the structures and activities associated with the Research Training role of the Network of Excellence.

Summer Schools - To meet the need for advanced research training and to ensure that new researchers in the field are brought rapidly up to speed and can contribute to RENOIR we will organise summer schools covering specialist research topics in requirements engineering. RENOIR will cover organising expenses and will provide "scholarships" for attendees from network nodes.

Radicals Workshops - Existing networks have held successful "radicals" workshops which have aimed to bring less experienced researchers from network nodes together to build joint research projects and foster cooperative work. We plan to hold a small number of these workshops timed to link with calls issued under the Framework Programme. RENOIR will cover organising expenses and will provide "scholarships" for attendees from network nodes.

We will in addition support the development of international doctoral committees as a basis for increased interaction between nodes.

8.2 Coordination

The primary responsibility for human resources planning is allocated to the Research Training committee. They act through task groups established to organise summer schools and radicals workshops. The responsibility for ensuring that the right skills are created for the direct needs of RENOIR lies with the Research Training committee, skill creation in response to industrial demand is a shared responsibility of the Research Training committee and the Industry & Technology Transfer committee.

The policy of RENOIR is to place particular emphasis on sharing of skills and knowledge between nodes, in this sense all the activities of RENOIR have a human resources component. The objective of our human resources strategy is to build a European skill base in requirements engineering research and to ensure that training is available to all nodes in specialist topics and new developments. We aim to create an open structure in which training and skill requirements can be accommodated and particular needs responded to.
