In 1994 the Workshop will be hosted by Roel Wieringa and Amilcar Sernadas will act as program committee chairperson. The envisaged topics for discussion include, but are not limited to: * semantics of object-orientation; * object-oriented specification languages and methods; * configuration, dynamic reconfiguration, and reification techniques; * logic formalisms forsp ecification and certification; * temporal, dynamic and deontic specification techniques; * non-monotonic specification techniques; * formalization of thedevelopment process. It is planned to have a couple of invited talks. The number of participants will be limited to around sixty and it is expected that upto thirty six half-hour presentations will be possible. Requests for participation (using the enclosed form) will be accepted until May 6, 1994. If necessary a selection will be made by the program committee chair and formal invitations will be sent around in June. Registrations will then be accepted until July 15. After the workshop the program committee will make a selection of the presented talks for inclusion in the proceedings to be published by a suitable international publisher. Those selected will have to prepare a paper of up to 5000 words until the end of December 94. The papers so submitted will be refereed and a final decision by the program committee will be announced by the end of February 95. In due course the authors of the accepted papers will be called upon to prepare a camera-ready version of the paper to be sent to the publisher. Location The Workshop will be held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, famous for its beautiful canals and seventeenth century houses. The national museum houses paintings by Rembrandt, Mondriaan, and other famous Dutch artists, and there is a large collection of VanGogh paintings in the Van Gogh museum, right next to the national museum. Amsterdam is the home of the Concertgebouw orchestra and has a rich tradition of theatre performances. For those who want to take time off from their scientific labours, the famous Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein offer an enticing variety of bars and restaurants. Accommodation and Prices The workshop is planned on a residential base, so all participants are required to stay at the Novotel. All registration fees includes participation fee, a conference kit and a full-board lodging in Novotel. The meeting itself was organized as 5 parallel tracks, operating in workshop fashion. It is planned that a summary of the workshop will appear in the April '94 issue of ACM Software Engineering Notes. A list of papers of the proceedings was provided in REQUIREMENTS ENGINEERING NEWSLETTER 17. A small number of proceedings, left over from the print run provided the workshop, are available for purchase directly from the workshop organization. IF INTERESTED: contact me for further information. These proceedings should also be available from IEEE in the near future, if not already. ********************************************************************** From: Gunnar.Brataas@idt.unit.no Subject: CAiSE*94 DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS CAiSE*94 The 6th Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM Date: 6-7 June 1994 Location: Utrecht, The Netherlands DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM ORGANISATION: Information Systems Group, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Norwegian Institute of Technology, Trondheim CAiSE*94 ORGANISATION: Software Engineering Research Centre and University of Twente CONSORTIUM AIMS AND OBJECTIVES ============================== A doctoral consortium will be held in connection with the CAiSE*94 conference in Utrecht. It offers doctoral students within the Information Systems Engineering field an opportunity to exchange information related to their research. The consortium will be part of the workshop programme of the CAiSE*94 conference. The two first days of the conference have been reserved for the consortium (i.e., on 6th and 7th June, 1994). To encourage active participation, each participant will present her/his doctoral work and this will be followed by a discussion about the work. During the consortium an expert panel consisting of three prominent professors within the field of Information Systems Engineering will act as a catalyst for the discussions. The CAiSE*94 conference aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners in the Information Systems Engineering field. CAiSE*94 offers in addition to the workshop programme, a three days scientific programme with state of the art paper presentations combined with highly interactive panel sessions, in addition to a specific industrial programme containing tutorials and technical presentations on innovative products (both scientific and commercial). The conference will be completed with a commercial exhibition for Information Systems Engineering product suppliers and scientific poster sessions and demonstrations. NO FEE ====== There is no entrance fee for the students participation at the consortium, but registration for the main conference will be required in order to attend the consortium. FINANCIAL SUPPORT ================= A limited number of grants are available from the European Commission's Euroconference Programme. The grants can be used for travel and subsistence costs as well as for registration fees for CAiSE*94. Potential participants at the doctoral consortium are invited to apply for support for participating in the consortium as well as in the CAiSE*94 main conference. Participants must apply separately for the grant to the CAiSE*94 organisation. The forms that should be used for the applications will be put onto to the net around 15 February (together with the Call for Participation for the main conference). APPLICATION =========== To apply for participating at the consortium, you must provide four copies of an abstract of your doctoral work. The abstract should describe the objectives of the doctoral work, how the identified problems are approached to achieve the objectives (i.e., research approach), and the major results of the doctoral work. The abstract should be no more than 2 pages long. Admission is limited to 20 students. Students will be selected based on the topic, quality, and interest of the two-page abstract they submit. The topic should be in line with the main conference topics (see Call for Papers for the CAiSE*94 conference). Therefore requirements engineering deserves special attention whenever software quality is concerned. During requirements engineering not only the functional requirements have to be elicitated and defined, but also non-functional requirements must be stated. For quality oriented system development the specification of the desired quality goals during requirements engineering is essential. Currently there are deficiencies in exploiting the relationships between requirements engineering and software quality. GOAL The main goal of the REFSQ'94 is to bring together people working in the fields of requirements engineering and software quality, focussing on the - specification of quality requirements - their traceability back to user needs and - measurement of their achievement. In contrast to scientific conferences work will primarily been done in panel discussions with only very brief paper presentations. THEMES REFSQ'94 invites contributions from research as well as from industry, dealing with (but not limited to) the following topics: - Specification of software quality requirements - Quality models for requirements engineering - Integration and extension of specification models by quality aspects - Quality-oriented process models for requirements engineering - Traceability of quality requirements - Measurement of quality requirements satisfaction by suitable metrics PARTICIPATION The workshop will be an interactive forum with presentations of full papers, position papers, and discussion groups. Presentations will be brief (10 minutes maximum), and will be followed by a panel discussion between the authors and the audience, directed by a panel leader. Papers should emphasize what is new and significant about the chosen approach and adequately compare it with similar work. Attendance will be limited to 20 people and all participants must have written accepted full papers or position papers. The workshop language is English. As the workshop is beeing organized in conjunction with the CAiSE conference, which it is immedeately preceeding, all workshop participants are supposed to attend the CAiSE.
