Title of the activity: Visit to Oxford University

Date: 1 September 1998

Place: Oxford

Name: Hermann Kaindl

RENOIR Node: Siemens Austria

On 1 September, 1998 I visited the Computing Laboratory of the Oxford University, where Dr L A Wallen hosted me. After intensive technical discussions on various aspects of requirements engineering, I gave a talk entitled " An Object-Oriented Approach to Requirements Engineering Using Hypermedia".

Apart from touching on some more general issues, it primarily gave an overview of the method and the tool RETH (Requirements Engineering Through Hypertext). This talk was interleaved with a short tool presentation.

I had brought with me some reprints of papers on RETH. In return, I received reports and papers on video-supported ethnography authored by the requirements engineering group at Oxford University.

Further discussions focussed on the shared interest in the use of multimedia and hypermedia for requirements engineering. Finally, we exchanged some thoughts on an informal future co-operation.

This visit helped primarily getting information and a deeper understanding of each others work. So, it provided very useful input for both further research at the University and requirements engineering practice in industry.
