ABSTRACT
The relationship between media quality and user cost in networked multimedia applications.
Gillian Wilson
The aim of this research is to establish the relationship between media quality experienced by users' when
interacting with networked multimedia applications and user cost. In the networked multimedia community
there is much activity in the area of quality of service requirements yet, this tends to focus at the level of
the network provider. The literature shows that the relationship between users' perceptions of audio and
video and the objective quality parameters the centre of the quality of service discussion is not clear.
Therefore, a more in depth study of users' perceptions and quality needs to be undertaken. This will be
achieved by measuring users' physiological responses as objective factors in multimedia applications. This
is of the utmost importance as it is ultimately the user who will determine the success of an application.
This talk will describe studies that have been planned and physiological responses that will be measured
to address this issue.
