ABSTRACT

Intelligent Data Analysis: Issues and Challenges

Xiaohui Liu Brunel University Department of Information Systems and Computing

The problem of "data explosion" and the evolution of computing technology have led to new challenges as well as new opportunities for intelligent data analysis.

After outlining some important developments in the field, I shall look into several key analysis issues regarding data quality, variable grouping, and model building.

Several real-world applications are described where existing analysis methods have been found inadequate to address those issues. I will then discuss some of our research effort in multivariate time series modelling and outlier analysis with applications in bioinformatics, medical screening and industrial process monitoring and control.
