ABSTRACT
Consistency Checking and Smart Link Generation
Christian Nentwich
The advent of the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) has introduced a
shift in the world of hypertext from the storage of written text to
the structured storage of data in a readable format. The adoption of
XML typically leads to the production of a multitude of documents,
often in a distributed fashion. In addition, the data in distributed
documents are often overlapping, providing a fertile ground for the
development of inconsistencies.
The Software Systems Engineering group at UCL has been studying the
issues of consistency management for some time and this seminar will
present the latest findings. We present a language for expressing
consistency constraints between documents, together with a tool for
the detection of inconsistencies.
The seminar will also provide a brief introduction to XML and the
related technologies XPath and XLink, which are used extensively in
our approach.
