ABSTRACT
The Convergence of Interactive Television and the World Wide Web
Dr. David Shrimpton, Computing Laboratory, University of Kent, Canterbury
With the recent arrival of digital broadcasting has also come the possi
bility of interactive television. Already, a number of countries have
either introduced, or are currently in the process of introducing, interac
tive services. These services are often similar to those available via the
Internet and for some time it has been suggested that these are converg
ing technologies.
In this seminar we shall look briefly at the history of both interactive
television and WWW technologies. We shall attempt to draw parallels
between them and show how convergence is already beginning to take
place. Finally some possible models for future convergence will be pre
sented.
